Training and Classes

 

In addition to the regular competitive events in IPSC Pistol, Bullseye Pistol, Smallbore and Highpower Rifle, Cowboy Action and Skeet, training classes are provided for the various shooting disciplines and related subjects by Sir Walter Gun Club, Inc. Due to space limitations and the availability of course materials, pre-registration two weeks prior to the course date is recommended to insure a seat in the course. Feel free to call to determine course availability.

Certified National Rifle Association instructors periodically hold classes on such subjects as basic pistol, basic rifle, shotgun, personal protection, home firearms safety, reloading, range safety officer and the North Carolina concealed carry course. The courses are open to the public and are geared to the skill levels of the students.

Year 2008 Training Schedule

The following courses are currently on the training schedule for 2008. However, changes may be made to the schedule or additional dates on these topics or other shooting courses may be added.

A MAP is available in addition to these directions. From Raleigh, proceed north on NC 50 to Creedmoor, then through Creedmoor to U.S. 15. Proceed north on U.S. 15 for approximately 3 miles to the crossroads of Hester; turn right on Hester Road and go 0.6 miles. The entrance to the Club is on the left.

From Interstate I-85 South, exit at the Creedmoor Exit # 191 (NC Highway 56). Drive east into Creedmoor till you get to the traffic light. The Ford dealer will be on your left. Turn left at the light (US Highway 15) and follow it north towards Oxford, NC. Approximately 2.5 miles north of Creedmoor, turn right onto Hester Road (SR 1129). The range is on your left about 0.6 miles down Hester Road.

From Interstate I-85 North, exit at Exit # 202 (US Highway 15). Drive south on US 15 about 8 miles and turn left onto Hester Road (SR 1129). The range is on your left about 0.6 miles down Hester Road.

The Sir Walter Gun Club facilities include a covered firing line, camping space (no hookups) for competitors (under the supervision, and at the discretion of the Match Director), running water and indoor restrooms. Snacks and cold drinks will be available at the range. Motels and camping facilities are located a short distance from the range along Interstate 85.

Due to space limitations and the availability of course materials, pre-registration two weeks prior to the course date is recommended to insure a seat in the course. N. C. Concealed Carry Qualification Course: To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safely carrying a concealed handgun.
Course length: 10 hours including the practical qualification to follow.

2008 SWGC Member Safety Course

Course for new and existing members of Sir Walter Gun Club on range and firearms safety.

This course is taught and managed by the Gun Club (not SWSS) for Club Members and prospective Members. Please contact the SWGC Club President with any questions. Course length: 4 hours.

This is a required course for all applicants to the Gun Club.
Current members must complete this class to have range privileges after January 1, 2007.
