NRA Basic Rifle Course

Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development.

Course length: Two days - 14 hours

Students learn the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safely owning and using a pistol. Whether experienced or new to shooting, all students benefit from this class's practical skills development exercises.

North Carolina Concealed Carry Course

This Course provides students the NC DOJ required training program in the use of deadly force, carrying a concealed handgun, and demonstration of proficiency in the use of the handgun.

Individuals must provide and use the handgun, ammunition and holster or other carrying device they will use for Concealed Carry.

Small classes allow additional focus and range time on skills proficiency, firearm presentation practice and drills, as well as extended concentration on the legal aspects of using deadly force.

Successful completion of the NRA Basic Pistol course offered by SWGC is a prerequisite for entering this class.

Upon successful completion, the student will receive the certificate needed for applying for a NC Concealed Carry Permit.

Range Safety Officer

Develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self- defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: Certificate of completing a Sir Walter Gun Club or Certified NRA Basic Pistol course, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification or Law Enforcement 218 certification.

North Carolina Concealed Carry Course for SWGC Members only

This Course is offered SWGC Members who have experience in Pistol Match Competition and/or have proficiency in the practice as outlined in the NRA Basic Pistol Course Description regarding the fundamentals of shooting accuracy and safety.

North Carolina NRA Metallic Reloading Course

Teaches beginning reloaders the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely reload metallic cartridges. Each student is taught reloading safety; center fire cartridge components; using the reloading manual and reloading data; equipment; and the metallic cartridge reloading process. Students will receive the NRA Guide to Reloading handbook, the Basic Reloading Student Exam, a course completion certificate, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure

2014 SWGC Member Safety Course Date Cost
This is a required course for all applicants to the Gun Club.

It is taught and managed by the SWGC Safety Committee for Club Members, Prospective Members and their families.

This course focuses on the Club Safety Rules and includes a walking tour of the facility. Please dress comfortably for the weather and bring eye and ear protection.

Registration is required at least one week before the class so we may determine the class size. The class will be canceled if no one registers.
