Objective: Introductory-level shotgun
safety class, open to participants of SWGC Junior Skeet Club.
Participants: The class is open to all
Juniors 12 through 20 years of age. No previous shooting experience
is required. (Parents are welcome to remain in the classroom during
the class). This class is a requirement for all Junior shooters who
intend to participate in the Sir Walter Gun Club, Junior Skeet Club,
and have not previously taken the class. Registration is limited to
10 shooters on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cost: The cost of the class is $42.50.
(Pre-registration is suggested to ensure a place in the class; class
size is limited to the first 10 applicants. Applicants will receive
an acknowledgement of registration prior to the class). Location: Sir
Walter Gun Club, 3˝ miles north of Creedmoor, NC, on State Road 1129
(Hester Road). [See map] Schedule:
Date: Feb 12, 2012 1:00 p.m.
Program: The class is based on the
National Rifle Association’s First Steps Shotgun Course, and includes
classroom instruction as well as a practical shooting exercise
(introduction to shooting Skeet). The class covers personal safety
and range safety, information about different types of shotguns (with
emphasis on 20ga shotguns) and shooting instruction on the Skeet
field. Parents are welcome to remain at the SWGC facilities for the
duration of the class.
Materials: Instructional materials
will be provided. The students will receive books and other materials
that they will keep, and will receive a certificate upon completion
of the class. Shooting Gear: All of the equipment needed for the
range exercise will be provided, including shotguns, eye protection,
ear protection, targets, and ammunition. There is no additional
charge for the use of the equipment. Students should NOT bring their
own shotguns or ammunition to this class. Note: If students already
have their own eye and ear protection, they are encouraged to bring
it for the range exercise, as it may fit better and be more
comfortable for them than the club equipment. Ear plugs work better
than the muff type ear protection. Instructors: National Rifle
Association Certified Instructors will be running the class and
coaching the students during the range exercise. NRA certified Range
Safety Officers will supervise the operation of the firing range at
all times.
